Rough-skinned Newt, Mima Falls Trail, WA USA
Barbara heard the knock on the door. It couldn’t be Fred and Anton, they were out walking along the tracks searching for any coal that might have fallen off the coal train.
She opened the door. An older man greeted her. He had a big nose and a wide smile that about covered his unshaven face. A young man stood several feet behind him, his head hanging low.
“Good afternoon, Ma’am,” the older man said. “We was wondering if you might be able give us a bite to eat.”
“Sit down on the steps, it will be a few minutes.”
During the Great Depression, Barbara Volk of Great Falls Montana, and others like her gave from the little they had to serve the poor. They knew what God expected and they followed his commandments. Let us follow Barbara’s example.
If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,’ but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it?” (James 2:15-16).
